What does Windows Server EOL 2008 mean for my businss?

The 14 of January 2020 marked the end of the extended support period for Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2.

This completes the End Of Life process for Windows Server 2008 which began in January 2015 when mainstream support for R2 was ended.

The end of the extended support period means that Microsoft won’t provide automatic fixes, updates, or technical assistance for any customers with Windows Server 2008.  Anyone still using Server 2008 is running a significant security risk – with no new patches being released, bad actors are incentivised to target these systems looking for vulnerabilities to exploit, knowing there will be no official defence.

If your company has not moved from the old server operating systems, now is the time.  Microsoft provides a guide for migrating your Windows Server systems to the new Azure platform however we would be more than happy to complete this process for you.  Azure is a cloud computing service offering software and infrastructure support, data management and storage, and mobile services among others.

Those who wish to continue using an on-premise server, OneCall would be happy to provide recommendations on the most appropriate windows solution for your business.

Whichever option you choose to replace Server 2008 it is imperative you act quickly to avoid major security and functionality issues with your system.  If you’d like further information, to book in your upgrade, or advice in choosing the best Server OS for your needs, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
